Qualification

FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup

Following the changes to the FIBA Calendar made in April 2020, national teams will qualify for the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup - FIBA's flagship women's competition - via four global FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2022 Qualifying Tournaments in February 2022. The qualifying tournaments will feature a total of 16 teams, determined by their results in the four FIBA Women's Continental Cups 2021.

Australia was appointed as the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2022 Host Country in March 2020.

FIBA Women's Continental Cups

The FIBA Women's Continental Cups will have their own qualification process as of November 2020 (except for Europe - starting in November 2019).

Olympic Qualification

With regular and competitive tournaments scheduled throughout the year, the qualification system tips off in November 2023 to qualify teams for the .

National teams will play in the FIBA Women's Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournaments in three Regions - Africa, Americas, Asia (including Oceania) - to qualify for one of four global FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournaments. 

In Europe, the qualification to the Women's Olympic Basketball Tournament starts with the FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2023 Qualifiers being played over three windows (November 2021, November 2022 and February 2023). Teams from Europe will not play in the FIBA Women's Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournaments but qualify 6 teams directly to FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournaments from FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2023.

A total of 16 teams will participate in one of four global FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournaments taking place in February 2024, 12 of them, including the Host* and the Winner of the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2022, will qualify to the Women's Olympic Basketball Tournament. The next Olympic Games will take place in Paris in 2024 from July 26 to August 11.
