The Warriors were unable to deliver another win for the Go Media Stadium faithful in their final home game of the regular season, with the Eels playing giantkillers again.
While the stats showed the home side had more than their fair share of opportunities to score, it was Parramatta who made their chances matter to upset their hosts with a close and hard-fought 26-22 win.
Next up, the action headed to Melbourne for Craig Bellamy's milestone 600th game as coach.
“Craig has done something extremely rare in professional sport. He has coached through three decades with unparalleled success," Abdo said.
"A remarkable 70% win record through different eras, challenges, players and strategies. What has been consistent are the values he sets by example. Hunger, hard work and humility.
“Just about every single player and person finishes at Melbourne Storm better than when they started.
"What better contribution could a coach and leader make to a club and to rugby league?"
After trailing 10-0 at the break the Roosters blitzed the Storm with a remarkable turnaround in the second half for a 40-10 win.

Storm: Round 26
Full-time: The Roosters put on a show to score 40 unanswered points to record a rare win in Melbourne. Mark Nawaqanitawase scored four tries and is now the season's top tryscorer with 20. The huge win gives the Roosters a massive finals boost, putting plenty of distance between them and the chasing Dolphins and Sea Eagles who have to win and win big in their next two games to be any chance of making the eight. Despite missing some of their stars, who were rested for the game in preparation for the finals campaign to come, it was an extremely poor second half for the Storm who were supposed to be celebrating coach Craig Bellamy's milestone. With 58 percent of the possession in the end with a 38/43 completion rate compared to 23/32 to the Storm, the Roosters turned their 10-0 halftime deficit around in emphatic fashion to stun the Storm at home in their 40-10 win.
80th min: The Roosters have run riot in the second half and have handed the Storm their worst ever second half, with Tedesco the latest to score, once more under the posts. From deep in their own half, they make another easy break through the Storm defence which has dropped off this second half and the Roosters captain juggles the pass, but can regather to sprint away. Smith converts for 40-10.
77th min: And another one ... but this time, it's Rob Toia out on the right edge who goes over to score, with Nawaqanitawase having crept in field. Smith converts again for 34-10.
Robert Toia Try
71st min: As much as things have fallen apart for the Storm, everything is coming up Nawaqanitawase at AAMI Park. He is over for his fourth try of the night. The Storm were looking like they were finally going to mount a comeback and were on the attack, but an errant offload goes into the hands of Hugo Savala who streaks away. While the Storm run him down eventually, the Roosters attack to their right and the flying Fijian is over again. Smith converts and it now out to 28-10.
Mark Nawaqanitawase 4th Try
67th min: And now Nawaqanitawase has a hat-trick. The Roosters continue to roll on in a remarkable second-half turnaround. Smith's kick misses this time and it's 22-10.
64th min: More success for the Roosters who have looked a different team this second half and another try for Nawaqanitawase. The Storm, who had been so good in the first half, have been made to pay for errors and penalties conceded. Smith's kick hits the upright and drops over, putting an exclamation mark on the change of fortunes this second half for the Roosters who lead 18-10.
59th min: An inconclusive captain's challenge for the Storm, who get to keep their challenge, but the Roosters have the ball with Papenhuyzen called by the on-field referee Todd Smith for a knock on.
54th min: A re-energised Roosters outfit after the break has hit the lead with Siua Wong running in under the posts to score. Smith makes no mistake with the conversion. Showing plenty of intensity, a bust through the middle by Egan Butcher sets up the try and now they are 12-10 in front.
Siua Wong Try
46th min: Mark Nawaqanitawase somehow stays in despite the attention of Kane Bradley pushing him out to score the opening try for his side. He didn't have much room to move after getting a pass from James Tedesco, but he makes it work. Sandon Smith converts and it's 10-6.
Mark Nawaqanitawase Try
A lot to unpack in the lead-up to that try, with what everyone - including the Roosters - thought was a Billy Smith error actually paying off for the visitors, with his dropped ball deemed to have gone backwards, with the Storm then told to kick a line drop out after they kicked the ball out over the deadball line.
Half-time: The Storm are playing for their coach and have put in a huge defensive showing to go into the break with a 10-0 lead. The Roosters have showed some glimpses of their attacking ability, only for desperate defence - like an ankle tap from Cameron Munster on Victor Radley running towards an open goal - frustrating the visitors. Plenty more action to come in the second 40 in a fast-paced and entertaining game.
Try saving ankle tap from Munster
37th min: Another try to the Storm through Grant Anderson, whose versatility is bound to be missed by the Storm next season. Warbrick goes high and bats the ball back from a Jonah Pezet kick for his centre to score. Melbourne charged into try-scoring contention after a strong run from Alec MacDonald, who bumped off a tackle attempt from Crichton in the lead-up. Papenhuyzen's conversion attempt is waved away and it's 10-0 to the Storm.
Grant Anderson Try
Argy-bargy alert: Both teams are indulging in some niggle in this closely-contested match so far, with Angus Crichton and Joe Chan taking everything personally. As the second half approaches, already the Roosters have given up a huge seven penalties, with the Storm only marginally better with four.
22nd min: Finally some points, with the Storm the first on the board with Shawn Blore running over after some errors and back-to-back penalties from the Roosters give the home side a chance to get into their attack. Ryan Papenhuyzen slots the conversion and it's a 6-0 lead.
10th min: A steady start to an important game for both sides. Roosters look a far better team than the one that suffered their shock loss to the Eels. The Storm, without suspended skipper Harry Grant already, have rested some of their big stars, but have already gotten some good play from new inclusions Will Warbrick and Nelson Asofa-Solomona.
Late Mail
Storm: Will Warbrick will return to the side after making a successful return from concussion in Queensland's Hostplus Cup last week. He comes into the wing, pushing Siulagi Tuimalatu-Brown back to 18th player. Nelson Asofa-Solomona will also start, moving Alec MacDonald to the bench. Earlier, Tui Kamikamica (concussion) was ruled out, Harry Grant suspended and four players rested. Xavier Coates, Nick Meaney, Eli Katoa and Josh King have all been handed a chance to freshen up. Shawn Blore is on track to return from an ankle injury, while Bronson Garlick is set to start at hooker.
Roosters: On game day, Benaiah Ioelu has been moved to start, pushing Connor Watson back to the bench. Other changes see Blake Steep come onto the bench, with Salesi Foketi omitted. Ethan King remains 18th player. Earlier, Hugo Savala will wear the No.7 jumper after Sam Walker (concussion) was ruled out, with Sandon Smith stepping in as five-eighth. Daniel Tupou is on track to return from a concussion that kept him out of last week's loss to Parramatta.
Big night in Melbourne for Storm coach Craig Bellamy, in charge for game number 600.

Eels: Round 26
Full-time: The Eels have done it again and upset a higher-ranked team in an important game, holding on for a 26-22 win. As was the case at half-time, the Warriors had the better of the possession and their opportunities to score. However, some poor individual defence against a spirited Eels side who have been having fun upsetting teams looking to play finals proved too hard to overcome. Most of the game statistics did go the way of the home side, except for their 11 errors which proved costly as well.
From the field: The Warriors had a potentially game-winning try ruled out by the Bunker for a knock on by Demitric Vaimauga with the man in question admitting in a post-match interview that he knew touched the ball but felt he was facing away from his own tryline at the time. The prop also admitted that call was not the reason for his side's loss.
75th min: A kick from CHT can't be controlled by the Eels, with Iongi - who has been outstanding for the visitors tonight - with a rare off play. Pompey is there at the end to capitalise and runs over to score ... however, the Bunker takes a look and overturns the try, with prop Demitric Vaimauga, who was also flying high for the kick, deemed to have touched the ball and knocking it forward. The vocal Warriors fans are not happy, with the vision shared not as conclusive as they would have liked. Scores remain 26-22.
71st min: Life left in this game with Halasima bursting through for his second! A few errors in a row for the Eels put the Warriors back on the front foot, with Leka the Wrecker needing no more encouragement. Boyd converts for 26-22.
Leka Halasima 2nd Try
67th min: An inconclusive captain's challenge for the Eels who retain their right, but the Warriors are the ones who get to keep the ball as they try to turn the game around.
64th min: Well, that fightback was short-lived, with Iongi's second try of the night a spectacular effort which puts the Eels further in front again. Off a great offload from Junior Paulo, the Parramatta fullback just runs and runs and steps around CNK trying to defend at the back, before going over under the points. Lomax slots the conversion from in front again and it's 26-16.
61st min: Back-to-back tries now for the Warriors, with Halasima going high and over the top of outstretched Eels hands to bring down a Boyd kick into the in-goal. It's his 11th try of the season and could be a pretty important one if his side are to keep their top four place. Boyd slots the conversion and the scores have narrowed to 20-16.
58th min: Roger Tuivasa-Sheck has had enough and sparks a fightback. RTS is over in the left corner, taking a great pass from Pompey who had attracted plenty of defenders. The Warriors were able to get back into the game with a huge line break on the right-hand side only a few plays earlier from the veteran winger. Boyd gets this one over from the sideline and it's 20-10 to the Eels.
Roger Tuivasa-Sheck Try
54th min: Successful captain's challenge from the Eels, with Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad simply losing the ball with no ruck interference from Parramatta.
52nd min: Ryley Smith with a fantastic 'almost' try ... he chips ahead out to the left and he chases his own kick, collecting it and bringing it down, but just on the dead ball line. Another lucky break for the Warriors who have struggled to control the kicks on their right side this evening.
50th min: More points for the Eels, with Iongi running in to score. The Warriors give up a penalty for a dangerous tackle and the visitors are quick to capitalise. Moses throws a ball to Kelma Tuilagi who makes a break, passing out to his fullback after he slips to the ground. Lomax converts from in front and it's blown out to 20-4.
Isaiah Iongi Try
44th min: The Eels edge ahead after a successful captain challenge shows Leka Halasima stripped out a ball. Lomax slots a penalty goal and it's 14-4.
Halftime: The Warriors have it all to play for to try and stay in the top four, but they head to the sheds trailing 12-4. The Eels have come to play and while overall the stats would indicate that the home side should be in front, with 55 percent of the possession and fewer penalties conceded, but it's Parramatta who have been able to swoop when given their chances, including a length-of-the-field effort from milestone man Josh Addo-Carr.
30th min: Eels are denied another try, with fullback Isaiah Iongi offside from a kick from Moses, who had tried to chip ahead and regather. All a bit messy, but a lucky outcome for the Warriors.
25th min: Some strong defence from Eels skipper Mitchell Moses who is able to drag Harris-Tavita over the sideline as he was desperately charging toward the tryline.
Moses puts CHT into touch
20th min: Adam Pompey strikes back for the home side who are finally on the board after having the better of the play in the first half. Off the back of a penalty, Warriors can set something up in attacking position, with some nice passing - including a quick tap on from Chanel Harris-Tavita to his centre - resulting in a try. Tanah Boyd's conversion attempt is waved away and scores remain 12-4.
Adam Pompey Try
16th min: The Eels have come to play and are over again - once more against the run of play. The Warriors were attacking on their own try line through their left but a pass back in finds the Eels instead who make a break downfield. The Warriors do make it back to defend, but are unorganised, with Jack Williams able to step back through the middle and goes over to score under the posts. Lomax again with the conversion for 12-0.
4th min: In his milestone game, Josh Addo-Carr runs the length of the field after the Warriors make a mess of an attempt to score their own try. The Foxx picks up the scraps, runs out from his own in-goal, over the field and then over to score. Zac Lomax converts for a 6-0 lead.
Josh Addo-Carr Try
Kick off: Wahs with the first use of the ball at home, another sold out crowd at Go Media Stadium.
Eels winger Josh "The Foxx" Addo-Carr will play his 200th NRL game this evening, with his team-mates keen to get a result for him.
Dylan Walker: "it's Foxx's 200th, he's a ball of energy and we'll feed off that"
Late Mail
Warriors: Tanner Stowers-Smith has come into the starting side on game day, as was the case last week; swapping with Demitric Vaimauga who reverts to the interchange. Sam Healey is the 18th player.
Eels: Sean Russell will start in the centres in place of Dylan Brown who drops out of the the squad in a game-day change. Earlier, Josh Addo-Carr is set to play his 200th NRL game as he continues his quest for a Kangaroos recall for the upcoming Ashes series. Toni Mataele is the 18th player.
