Tahnee Norris steps down as Maroons Origin coach

Tahnee Norris has today confirmed she would not be seeking reappointment as the Harvey Norman Queensland Maroons Head Coach after an historic five-year tenure.

Norris, who won multiple premierships with the Burleigh Bears before her appointment as Maroons coach in 2021, guided the Maroons to a 2-1 series victory over New South Wales in the first ever three match women’s Origin series in 2024.

“It’s been an absolute privilege to coach the Queensland State of Origin team at such an important time for women’s rugby league in our country,” Norris said.

“While I have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity, I feel that after five years in charge it is the right time for a change for the team and myself personally.

“I’m immensely proud of what this team has been able to achieve. There’s so many big games and moments that I’ll cherish forever, from being part of the Maroons’ success in the first ever three match women’s Origin series, to strengthening our development pathways right throughout Queensland.”

QRL Chair Brian Canavan acknowledged Norris’ contribution to the women’s Origin program and female pathways.

“On behalf of everyone at the QRL, I’d like to thank Tahnee for her contribution to women’s rugby league in Queensland,” Canavan said.

“More women and girls get to chase and realise their rugby league dreams because of the work Tahnee has undertaken over many years.”

QRL will now commence recruitment for the vacant position with an appointment to be made in due course.
