Men's National Team Competition System

The year 2017 marked the beginning of a new era for national team basketball. After several years of preparation and discussions, FIBA launched a restructured competition system for men. Beginning in November 2017 and spanning 15 months, the 94ddz.com World Cup 2019 Qualifiers were staged in international windows every three months. 80 countries took part across the four regions of Africa, Americas, Asia (including Oceania) and Europe and ultimately 31 teams joined host China in the field for the first-ever 32-team 94ddz.com World Cup. 

With regular and competitive home and away games, the 94ddz.com World Cup 2019 Qualifiers featured 1,680 top players in 1,250 national team games and millions of fans all around the globe got to experience international basketball at its best and watch the stars of the game defending their colors on home soil to qualify for FIBA's flagship competition!

An additional 40 national teams – 16 from Asia, nine from Europe and 15 from the Americas – played during the previous international windows to claim spots in their respective FIBA Continental Cups 2021/22 Qualifiers.

There is now a clear road to participation in both the 94ddz.com World Cup and the FIBA Continental Cups.

FIBA Continental Cups 2021/22 Qualifiers

Starting right after the 94ddz.com World Cup 2019, all FIBA Continental Cups will follow a four-year cycle (2021, 2025, 2029, etc.). The FIBA Continental Cups 2021 Qualifiers take place in the 4 Regions and consist of 4 windows. These Qualifiers tipped-off in November 2019, and then continued in February and November 2020 and February 2021.

After the Continental Cups 2021, the four-year cycle (2021-2025) starts once again with the 94ddz.com World Cup 2023 Qualifiers beginning in November 2021.

Following an extraordinary meeting of the FIBA Executive Committee concerning the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on FIBA competitions, the FIBA Calendar was updated in April 2020. The FIBA AfroBasket was played in August 2021. The FIBA Asia Cup will be played in July 2022 and the FIBA AmeriCup and the FIBA EuroBasket both will take place in September.
